Our Doctor
Beginning Chiropractic
I began my chiropractic journey when I was about 15 years old. That was the first time I visited a chiropractor. I had injured my neck, or so I thought, lifting weights. My parents thought our local chiropractor would be the best place to go for my condition. After the local doctor did an examination, he treated my low back instead of my neck! Wow, was I impressed! How could treating my low back cause my neck pain to go away? During the course of my treatment I learned chiropractic was more than just "popping" away on a persons back. I eventually changed my career goals and started my way to chiropractic training.
I started right out of high school on an accelerated program at Highland College in Highland, Kansas. After going year round there for two years I spent more time at Park College in Kansas City. Finally it was time to enter Cleveland Chiropractic College here in Kansas City. This is a four year program that I finished in three years by going again year round. In April of 1991 I received my doctorate of chiropractic degree.
My husband, Kirk and I married in 1991 right before graduation. We then moved to Tampa, Florida. Here I was fortunate to have a year long internship with Doctors Nelson and Cameron De Camp. These doctors were specialist in a technique called Sacral Occipital Technique. The technique and knowledge from this experience is used every day in my clinic. After one year we returned to Kansas City. I have been practicing in the Independence area ever since.
Family
Kirk and I married in 1991. Our first child Spencer was born while we lived in Florida and Jacob came along in 1995. We have varied interest as a family, camping, hunting, snowboarding, traveling when we can and movie watching. Spencer and Jake attend Lee's Summit Community Christian School. As a family we attend Abundant Life Baptist Church. My boys receive care about once a month sometimes more when a condition arises. My husband being older and more worn requires care about 2-3 times a month.
Other Services
Over the years I have continued my education to benefit myself and the patients I care for. I have become certified to preform acupuncture, and also have integrated Chinese herbal therapies into the practice. These additional services have allowed me to care for my patients in an even more holistic and complete way.
I plan on continuing to practice right here in Independence for as long as there are people to serve. I can not imagine what my life and my families lives would be like without chiropractic and acupuncture. I hope to help it make a difference for you and you family.
